Why did they put two coins on the eyes of Abraham Lincoln’s corpse?
After US President Lincoln died (assassinated), one of his closest friends put two coins on his eyelids. What does this symbolize? I also saw it practiced in an ancient greek movie (Troy, Brad Pitt). How linked is Lincoln to the Greek culture?
The coins are to pay the ferryman that carries you to the Land of the Dead (Hades), across the river Styx.
As is commonly known, Lincoln was a pagan.
